Adam Styka was a French Orientalist painter of Polish origin. He made several trips to North Africa, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Egypt, and quickly turned to orientalism. During this prolific period, he painted landscapes, portraits of Arabs and Berbers, and Orientalist genre scenes. His palette became dazzling under the North African sun. He was nicknamed the "Painter of the Sun".
